Europeanisation meets democracy from below: The Western Balkans on the search for new European and democratic Momentum (WB2EU)

The University of Sarajevo has been established in 1949. The University of Sarajevo enjoys partnerships with over 300+ universities around the world, bilateral or though program colaboration. University of Sarajevo is an equal partner in mobility programs for students and members of staff, and it is open for study and research activities: TEMPUS (103 TEMPUS projects in cooperation with 135 European universities – 83 as partner, 16 as academic coordinator and 4 as grant-holder), FP7 (with 38 FP7 projects), Erasmus+ (with signed and approved inter-institutional agreements with 153 universities), Erasmus Mundus (19 ERASMUS MUNDUS projects in cooperation with 55 EU universities), Horizon 2020 (with 8 projects), CEEPUS, Mevlana, Fulbright, DAAD, and others.

This public institution offers study and research opportunities at 25 Faculties, 5 Institutes, 5 Centers, with National and University Library, Gazi Husrevbey Library, National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Student Parliament, with over 200 study programmes and over 200 departments. Today, having around 27,000 enrolled students, it ranks among the largest universities in the region.

The Faculty of Political Sciences (hereinafter FPS), which will coordinate the Jean Monnet Program activities on behalf of the University of Sarajevo, has been established in 1961. It consists of five departments: Political Science Department, Communication and Journalism Department, Department of Sociology, Department of Peace and Security Studies, and Department of Social Work. Alongside this departments FPS hosts Institute of Social Research, which runs research projects on different topics related to social sciences. FPS has 62 members of teaching and research staff.

Nedžma Džananović Miraščija, Associate Professor, Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo

Nedžma Džananović Miraščija is a former diplomat, and now an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo. She is author of three books and a number of scientific and professional texts, mainly in the field of foreign policy analysis and EU integration. She holds a PhD (University of Sarajevo’s Faculty of Political Science in Sarajevo, 2012, Thesis Title: “Potential and Limitations of Post-National Foreign Policy: Foreign Policy of the EU”), a MA in European Studies (London School of Economics and Political Science, University of Bologna, University of Sarajevo, 2004) and BA in Political Science (Faculty of Political Science, University of Sarajevo, 1999). She is expert on EU integration, EU Foreign Policy, Diplomacy and Foreign Policy Analysis. Nedžma is author of three books and a number of scientific and professional texts, mainly in the field of foreign policy analysis and EU integration.

Sead Turčalo, Dean, Associate Professor, Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Peace and Security Studies, University of Sarajevo

Sead Turčalo is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo and since October 2019 Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences as well. He holds a PhD in Security, a MSc in Security Studies and BA in Security Studies (Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo). He is expert in Geopolitics, International Security, Conflict Management, Role of International Community in post-conflict societies and prevention of radicalization and violent extremism. Several publications, projects and consulting activities.
